Struggling to find the full text of the article you need?

Try the following tips;

  • Search using the journal title in the main search box in Primo.
     
  • Use quotation marks around the journal title Eg. "Journal of Documentation" to search for the journal title as a phrase.
     
  • The journal may be available in print only (or not available at all) place a request for a copy of the article you need (Distance Learners only).
     
  • Sign in to Primo and select the 'Distance Learners' link in the top bar.
     
  • Select 'Article' and fill in the details and submit.
     

Full Time Students: Select 'Document Supply' and 'Article' to request.

 

SCONUL Access

SCONUL Access is a scheme which allows many university library users to borrow or use books and journals at other libraries which belong to the scheme. To find out more about the scheme, who is eligible, and how it works, there is more information here.

When registering to use the SCONUL scheme,  use your Aberystwyth University Student Reference Number when prompted for an ID/Library card number (available on your student record - 'Personal Information' page).

How do I request books from the library?

Place your request on Primo. No need to email us!  Follow our easy 'How to' guide

 

Book Postal Loan Service

  • The book postal loan service is available to registered distance learning students.

Book Chapter Request

Where a book is not available for loan we are able to scan and email up to one chapter.

Select the Distance Learners link on the Primo homepage then select Chapter.

FAQ - How to access e-resources off-campus

Requesting a thesis

  • Theses held in Aberystwyth University libraries are not available for loan - only for consultation in the library.
  • PHD theses may be available electronically via EThOS (This service is temporarily unavailable).
  • Some other theses may be available via the Aberystwyth Research Portal
  • Where the thesis is not available online, AU Distance Learning Students, who are not able to visit the Library, can either:
    • Request the whole thesis via inter library loan through your local library - for reference use only
    • Request a chapter be scanned and emailed*

*Please complete the form in Primo and we will scan and email you a copy of the contents page of the thesis so you can select the chapter you would like sent to you.

Aber Card

Aber Cards are only needed on campus and will be printed when you attend an in-person study school.
