Struggling to find the full text of the article you need?

Try the following tips;

  • Search using the journal title in the main search box in Primo.
  • Use quotation marks around the journal title Eg. "Journal of Documentation" to search for the journal title as a phrase.
  • The journal may be available in print only and you can place a request for a copy of the article you need (Distance Learners only). Distance Learner request form for journal articles.
  • If the print and online are not available use Document Supply to request the full article.


How do I request books from the library?

Place your request on Primo. No need to email us!  Follow our easy 'How to' guide


Book Postal Loan Service


  • The book postal loan service is available only to students with the Department of Information Studies who are studying by distance learning.
  • To request a book by postal loan please follow the instructions here
  • The normal loan period will be four weeks
  • The loans will autorenew at four weekly intervals until they reach their maximum renewal time (12 months), or are requested by another user.
  • You may return items by post, as long as they are sent by recorded or registered post.
  • They should be posted or returned to the Hugh Owen Library*
  • Until they are received by the Library, all items are your responsibility.

Book Chapter Request

Where a book is not available for loan we are able to scan and email up to one chapter. Please complete our Distance Learner request form for book chapters.

Access to e-resources off-campus

Requesting a thesis

  • Theses held in Aberystwyth University libraries are not available for loan - only for consultation in the library.
  • PHD theses may be available electronically via EThOS
  • Some other theses may be available via the Aber Research Portal
  • Where the thesis is not available online, AU Distance Learning Students, who are not able to visit the Library, can either:
    • Request the whole thesis via inter library loan through their local library - for reference use only
    • Request a chapter be scanned and emailed to them. Please complete the form below and we will scan and email you a copy of the contents page of the thesis so you can select the chapter you would like sent to you. You can make this request using our Distance Learner request form for theses.
